Why do we ask you to complete a budget?

Writer: MelissaMelissa

Dividing the resources from one home into two is always challenging and it can be emotional as well. We try to mitigate that emotion by helping you both develop a really good understanding of what your monthly expenses are going to look like. Understanding cash in and cash out in each household once you’ve divided them helps each of you to understand where those support (child and spousal) payments are going.

We also find the process of working through a budget, and forecasting ahead 6-12 months helps you capture all of those once-in-awhile expenses so they aren’t a surprise later on. If you know your kids are going to need haircuts every six weeks we can factor that in. If you know summer camp is going to be the childcare plan for those two months then let’s build it into the budget.

Our aim is to have you leave our offices with a clear picture of what the next 6-12 months are going to look like as you and your family adjust to the transition. We know how impactful having the numbers in place can be while you settle into your new spaces and routines.
